SHRMLabs Expands Better Workplaces Challenge Cup with New Member Track

SHRMLabs announces upcoming new member track to elevate SHRM community; launches public applications today for companies revolutionizing HR.

September 28, 2022

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Today, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is announcing its member track application for candidates to compete in the SHRMLabs 2023 Better Workplaces Challenge Cup (BWCC) competition at SHRM's MENA conference in Dubai, UAE. The BWCC added this track to elevate SHRM community members working to address pressing challenges in the workplace. The BWCC aims to bridge the gap between companies creating workplace technologies and their end-users: HR professionals, people managers, and their workforces. The member track window will last from January 2, 2023, until February 19, 2023.

The new BWCC track, The Better Workplaces Challenge Cup: Member Track, will require a separate application process for SHRM members interested in competing in the BWCC competition. This track recognizes individual SHRM community members developing innovative HR solutions or process changes that align with SHRMLabs' mission of addressing pressing challenges in the workplace. The public will vote on the individuals competing in this track, and a panel of top HR industry leader judges will review each presentation. Judges will assess the contestants based on strategy, impact, popularity, and relevance in HR.

"We're excited for the newest crop of idea pitches to come for the Better Workplaces Challenge Cup's third year," said Alex Alonso, SHRM-SCP, SHRM's chief knowledge officer. "With the addition of the member track, the BWCC will continue to become a bellwether and a brain trust for the smartest minds in HR to collaborate and resolve the most pressing issues facing the field today."

There are additional measures for the member track qualification: Members must be early to midlevel in their careers, with three-plus years of professional work experience, two-plus years of HR work experience, and be comfortable sharing the size of their company and a revolutionary idea. Each member must also have a profile with SHRMLabs' WorkplaceTech Community (WTC), a platform for HR professionals to learn, network and share best practices. Each applicant will compete for one of 10 finalist spots in the race to be the winner who will get to attend the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo in June 2023.

"HR reinvention is being felt across the globe, and with this reinvention comes innovation," said Achal Khanna, CEO of SHRM India. "As the world embarks on this latest wave of digital revolution, it's important that HR continues to evolve and grow. It's competitions like this that allow a platform for these ideas to reach their next level."

The general BWCC application launches today for early-stage companies in the HR tech, future of work, or human capital services market. Companies should be able to convey a business model and demonstrate traction, engagement, and adoption metrics upon application. Each applicant will have the opportunity to secure one of 50 spots and compete in front of a panel of seasoned HR judges to continue in the BWCC competition. There will be three rounds of global competition culminating in the final match at SHRM23.

For approved companies, they will be competing for a $50,000 cash prize and an all-expense-paid trip consisting of flight and hotel accommodations for two company representatives to the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo 2023 in Las Vegas, complimentary booth space on the exposition hall floor, and exposure to 300,000+ HR and business executive members in 165 countries.
